Frederic Malle – Musc Ravageur

Perfume: Musc Ravageur
House: Frederic Malle
Perfumer: Maurice Roucel
Source: The Perfume Court
Size: 1 mL

Perfume Court Notes: lavender, bergamot, clove, cinnamon, gaiac wood, cedar, sandalwood, vanilla, coumarine, tonka bean and tonkitone

Date: 1/29/08 Weather: 38 degrees, drizzly evening

Comments: Started much like Le Labo Labdanum 18 – a sweet, powdery, spicy musk. There is a medicinal/chemical note in here that is not in the Le Labo (maybe the lavender?). About 30 minutes in, the slight medicinal note is replaced by a slight rubbery note – kinda like the flavor of cherry Chloraseptic lozenges. It’s actually a nice fragrance, but given a choice between the Le Labo and this, I would choose the Le Labo. The next morning, Musc Ravageur was still going as a close-wearing vanilla musk. Lasts at least 11 hours!

Date: 2/3/08 Weather: 40 degrees, clear

Comments: More camphoric at the top this time. That burns off in 20 minutes this time. Still have the sweet, powdery musk. Then turns to sweet pickles. Don’t smell it on the skin – appears on the sillage. May be the result of wearing this over burned off Bois de Iles. Had to scrub after 1 hour.

Date: 11/19/08 Weather: 35 degrees, clear, evening

Comments: Starts off with labdanum and a very distinctive pee note. After 30 minutes the pee burns off and you are left with a comforting, spicy vanillic musk. The next morning – still have lingering spicy vanillic musk very similar to Le Labo Labdanum 18.
