READ ME FIRST!!!!

To use this blog – please use the Journal Search feature. Search by name, note or house. Type Perfume to see the most recent entries.

I’m not using this as a blog so much as I’m using it to database my perfume journals. I’ll provide links to the perfume blogs that are better written. I’ve been trying to find a good databasing system and realized that the blog tools provide everything I need:

  • Tags
  • Hyperlinks to reviews
  • Room to write impressions
  • Search capability

Please understand that I am a noob and that my scent impressions are (frequently) not accurate ones.Items tested will be updated in the appropriate entry. I will not create new entries for each wearing since I’m trying to keep my impressions of each scent together.

Unless I have specifically mentioned that I have finished or gotten rid of a fragrance, assume I will be getting back to it. Again – I’m new at this and am certain that things I don’t like now I might like (or at least appreciate) later.

Your perceptions of each fragrance are highly welcome since I am only one uneducated nose with a limited attention span. I will be moderating comments in order to reduce spam and general nastiness. Bear with me if your comment does not automatically appear.

Let me know if this helps you.

  1. Hey, it’s March over at the Posse. These have been showing up as pingbacks in our comments so I followed one to see what was up… these are really nice. I like your brief-impressions style, and I think your observations are great. Do I know you? Do you comment on the blog?

  2. Ooo, I’m so happy you’re doing this – I have just discovered the Perfumed Court and should start doing this myself so that I know what I thought of each of those little vials I bought!

  3. This is so great! I look forward to comparing my own “tasting” notes to yours.

  4. This is going to be so much fun! Great idea – I look forward to reading your journal!

  5. I agree, great idea – an online journal! Like the graphic treatment of the entries – one of my favorite techniques (mixed type fonts and sizes – tricky but fab if done well!)

  6. Thank you all so much for the nice complements.
The graphic treatment is one of the default templates within WordPress. Anything having to do with the design of this blog is courtesy of the nice person who designed the template. Not me.

BTW – the name of the template and the person who designed it is at the bottom of this page.

  7. Found your perfume project and I love it! I’ll be visiting often. Reading your entries I even get to find about blogs I didn’t know existed! I just linked to you. Wishing you great success and most importantly, much olfactory pleasure!

  8. How fun is this! And parallel to what’s going on in my sphere…that Perfumed Court is a fabulous resource, isn’t it? (Though methinks “mania enabler” might also be an appropriate label… 😉 ) I am going through a few decant “collections,” plus this and thats and an expanding collection of “LOOK what I found at the discount store!” (Arpege, Bal de Versailles, etc. etc.) Me, who used to get headaches from my Nana’s perfume, starting on an exploration inspired by my Grandma’s Norell.

I also think your blog style is a nice compliment to the other perfume blogs out there, though I’ll bet your personal style and the vast immersion into so many scents dictated your approach. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what all you “discover”…and now I’m really wondering if I should blog instead of journal!

    Good luck, have fun.

  9. Love your page, it’s inspired me to begin writing down my own impressions!

  10. Lynnasea – Glad you like it! Writing down one’s impressions is the best way to really educate yourself and see how your opinion changes as you wear something.

Thereaslf – this started as a “proof of concept” project for something else in another realm. But yeah, I wanted to organize my stuff too. And it’s nice to be able to refer to others opinions when I am revisiting a scent to see what I missed. 🙂

  11. Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to pay a visit – after all the raves this project has gotten on Basenotes!! Having been the beneficiary of same great swaps with you – and having shared so many opinions with you – it’s about time I give credit where credit is due!!

Thanks SO much – I now think of this project as a really good source for reviews. Good job!!

  12. Thank you so much my fairy scentmother!!!!! I’m glad you love it!

  13. Hi Sakecat, I see you’ve linked some of my reviews, thanks! I’ve just added your site to my list of links too, hope that’s all right.

  15. funny Istumbled into you when I looked up Osmanthus (I have a large shrub in my yard, it offsets the exhaust of Dodge Rams driving thru the neighborhood)… an’ I was touched to see you use “Chaotic Soul” pattern wordpress, as do I…! small coincedence…consider sniffing round my blog (jacquiephelan.com “inside the mind of the wombat”)
and let me know how to send you a cool photo of my hand FULL of the freshly-gathered, tiny osmanthus bloomlets.
    Ever a fragrance newbie… JP

  16. Just a quick note to let you know how much I enjoy this blog. What a terrific reference!
    Yours fragrantly, BlackCat

  17. Read about your problems with another blogger. Pity. You’re doing such a great job of tracking your scent journey and I RULLY appreciate your sharing it with us. Rock on!!

  18. Great format , never found you before !!

  19. Hello! I think I saw me on your blogroll through my tracker, so came here to explore your blog — great idea! I plan to spend more time here. I’ve added you to my “favorite perfume blogs” on Olfactarama as well.

  20. Hi Sakecat,

Just stumbled on your blog. Have been a lifelong lover of all things scent related but actually didn’t realize it until recently, strange as that sounds. Have spent the last year on personal research similar to yours but not nearly as comprehensive; I’m terribly impressed with your dedication. I’m at my core a white flowers woman. Tuberose to be precise. Needless to say Fracas is high on my list of favorites. It could actually be my absolute favorite. At least for now it is. You’re the only other person I’ve ever heard say that it doesn’t last long on her. It doesn’t last long on my either, unless I layer parfum over lotion, and even then not always. Lately I’ve been a bit obsessed with finding some of the original forumlation and apparently you’ve managed to score this now extinct substance. Does it differ a lot from the modern parfum forumulation? Reply and tell all!

  21. I too, am a noob and have just discovered The Perfumed Court.
I love the fact that yo have begun a blog and have included individual notes in it. I look forward to following it.

    Kristin ( aka perfumista )

  22. This is so great idea!

  23. Jupp! This is good stuff 🙂 I’m a newbee (?) myself, and find your impressions very inspiring and helpful. Now you are in my Blogroll 😀 My blog is not all about scent. There is food, wine, gardening, nail polish and so on as well, and I write in Norwegian, so you probably won’t understand much. Sorry about that.
By the way; I found your blog Googling ‘Oud Damaskus’ – I’m on a Montale mission my self.
    Keep up the good work!

  24. Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog. 🙂 Cheers! Sandra. R.
